Instruments and Sounds

Drums and Percussion
The drum is my first love. The beat of the drum can awaken the deepest sensations, the rhythm can make you move or provide a point to focus on like a candle flame. I play a variety of drums during a SoundEscape, depending on the situation. A set of vintage drums, cymbals and tambourine to make you dance, or an antique Shamanic drum from Nepal to clear the way for a deep, inward experience.
Flutes
The flute is one of our oldest instruments and can be found in cultures throughout the world in different forms. The Native American flute has come to me relatively recently but it already feels like an old friend. These flutes are made of woods such as cedar, walnut, maple and bamboo and produce a haunting, meditative tone. For me, they provide a melodic balance to the rhythmic qualities of the drums and give me a voice I've always wanted.

Crystal Bowls
The meditative sound of the crystal bowls is otherworldly. Made of 99.9992% pure quartz crystal, these healing instruments are each tuned to a particular note which corresponds to one of the body's energy centers or "chakras". Everything vibrates, including ourselves. Sometimes a blockage in vibrational energy can occur but certain sounds, such as those produced by the bowls can help to unblock the congestion. I like to think of it as a tune up for the body. Just as an instrument needs to be tuned to resonate and function properly, we too can be brought into harmony with ourselves with sound.
Natural Sounds
I also like to incorporate the sounds of nature. It's easy to be overwhelmed by the noise of 21st century life but the sound of wind, rain, ocean shores or birds can help remind us that there is more going on outside our windows.
